Discover the Heart of Roost & Roam
Welcome to Roost & Roam—I’m so thrilled you’re here!

Rooted in the heart of motherhood, I’ve found so much joy in exploring the world with my family by my side. After many prayers and daydreams about how to make travel a bigger part of my life, I became a travel agent. Now, I have the joy of planning dream trips for clients and sharing our favorite destinations, travel tips, and the magic of experiencing the world through the eyes of our children.
So how did I become a globe-trotting travel agent?
I’m a former nurse and lactation consultant (I also have a passion for moms and babies), now a stay-at-home, homeschooling mama to four little adventurers. My first overseas journey was to Germany (hello, castles and lush countryside) and France (doesn’t everyone who visits Paris have a photo holding up the Eiffel Tower?) during high school to visit a friend. But it was during a three-week study abroad trip to Costa Rica in college that my passion for travel truly ignited.
A few years into our marriage, my husband and I had the fabulous (or maybe crazy?) idea to take our children to Costa Rica. Until then, U.S. road trips and National Parks were our go-to adventures. Since I had already traveled to Costa Rica, I felt confident planning the trip—and taking our kids along. That trip deepened our love for traveling as a family.
We absolutely adore being parents to four curly-headed cuties. And while, yes, we do take the occasional couples’ trip (sometimes jam-packed with adventure, sometimes a relaxing resort escape), more often than not, the kids join us. Traveling with children opens their eyes to new languages, cultures, and natural wonders. It sparks a deep curiosity and wonder that’s heartwarming to witness as a parent.
What you’ll find here:
On the blog, you’ll discover photo portfolios from our personal travels, tips for traveling with kids, planning advice, packing guides, examples of client trips, must-have travel items, and so much more.
You can trust that I’ll never recommend a destination, hotel, or product I wouldn’t choose for my own family—or don’t consider safe, reliable, or truly worthwhile.
My mission:
Through these stories and resources, I hope you’ll feel empowered to roam—whether with your family, your friends, or (gasp!) even solo. Whether you’re using my tips to plan your own trip or working with me directly to create a stress-free, unforgettable experience, my hope is that you’ll find joy—whether you’re home or away.
Happy roaming,
Shantel
